New Zealand needed seven runs off one over to beat England when the umpires abandoned the second one-day international.
With McCullum protesting vehemently, umpires Steve Davis and Ian Gould led the players from the field in near darkness at 7.25pm (local time) with the tourists needing seven runs off the 20th over to complete an eight-wicket victory at Edgbaston.

Fair dinkum cobber, the mighty Oz has spoken, and its obvious there's still an element of national shame re-G Chappel eh.
And rightfully so, its one of the worst bad sportsmanship moments in the history of all sports.

Its Cricket! Already proven to be a wimps sport. If its dark, call it off! If the weathers not the best, call it off! Let's focus on a real sport ie: Rugby - no matter what the conditions, the game is still played. Rain, hail or shine.

Pretty stupid question really - it was raining and there was no way to convene the game because it was too wet.
Should have they had a half hour lunch break in between innings when it was clearly likely to rain later that day, would have been a better question.
