The National-led Government has been in office for one year. How do you think it has performed?

To Pedantic.
Ask the Australia government how they are coming out of the recession in better shape that anyone else.
I'll bet it wasn't as a result of them sleeping it off until it was over.

The only comment I can add is that I'm glad he's only a one term PM. Give it to the Maori party & the greens I say, then we can really have something to bitch about.

After 12 months in office National has done little to steer NZ through this current recession. I will say in National's defence that they came into office at a very difficult time. But, Key and his government have had ample time to introduce policies to see NZ through. Unfortunately nothing of note except a proposal about a national cycleway, proposed restucture of ACC, new National Standards for education and what else? That's it.
I watched a programme on TV recently about former Malaysian PM Dr Mahatir Mohammad. What a man of vision and action he was. He dragged Malaysia from being a backwater country into the modern world. Malaysia is one of the fastest growing economies in Asia. What NZ really needs is a Dr Mahatir Mohammad. Maybe, Winston Peters? Or, Hone Harawira?

We voted for National, and our disappointment and frustration has been growing with Key's lack of strong leadership ever since.
National feebly sweeps issues under the carpet and sits on the fence, so they don't rock the boat. Too PC and too scared to lose out at the next election.
And what of democracy? NZ is supposed to be under democratic leadership, isn't it?
Sadly, many voters are already rethinking their very limited options.

Rodney (Howick) - Thanks for the supposed "good news"! I must remind you that the poor housing built under the 3 Labour led governments until 2008 was build under relaxed building rules that National brought in during the 1990's!
The timber used for instance did not have to be of the quality as it was before then, hence a lot of poor timber used in construction started to rot more easily. Of course I won't defend the last government over this, because the evidently poor standards should have been lifted long ago.
I did once live in a unit built in the 1960's which only had a wooden floor separating it from another unit above it in a small block of units. This is something not that uncommon in NZ. There was no noise insulation, every footstep coming from even children upstairs was loud and disturbing.
I raised this with the council and other agencies. I studied the building law and regulations. I was informed by the man in charge of building certification and maintaining standards at the Auckland City Council that there was nothing I as a tenant being affected by noise from upstairs could do. The standards of time of building applied! Poor building, high rents, high prices, thats NZ
