It's a celebration of a terrorist act in another country, ages ago. In the UK it's in autumn, here its in the breeding/nesting season for our animals. It terrifies pet animals. I can't see the need for it and really if it was on one or two nights I wouldn't mind, but we will suffer the noise of these things from now until after New Years thanks to the many who think only of their own pleasure. Time for New Zealand to grow up and think of better things to celebrate.

I was so happy. Nobody celebrated guy fawkes in my area.
Everybody instead decided to watch the free show on offer at the park.
There were no maimed animals, no letter box bombings,
no silly fires lit in the middle of the streets.
Fireworks are finally losing thier fizz.

I agree with the comments of Amigo Black. The residents of the cul-de-sac where I live in Manurewa all come out in force on Guy Fawkes night. Each household buys a Big Boom Box and combine them to put on a show for the kids. Not only do the kids learn from the adults issues of responsibility and safety, but the magic of being part of a community. It's one of the highlights of the year.

Of course it is. I paid for a $75 pack and was not impressed. We certainly didn't get value for money. Is someone out there taking a cut? He would be rich by now.

I couldn't give a rats about the price. What irritates me is people seem to think nothing of letting the damn things off AFTER the day. I think they are bloody inconsiderate, there's no concern at all for pet owners. You have one day to do this during the year and if you can't do it on the day, tough. And, moreover, where the hell are people getting sky rockets and double-happies still?!
