New Zealand experts are disputing a British study that drink-spiking with date-rape drugs is an urban myth.
A Kent University study of more than 200 students found many women blamed the effects of a "bad night out" on date-rape drugs when they had drunk excessively.
Does drink spiking occur in NZ?

Of course it happens. To think it doesn't is simply burying your head in the sand.
Like pretty much anything in life, if you can think of it, someone, somewhere out there is doing it.

Last time I was in Wellington I had my beer spiked with a drug. The police werent particularly interested as I didnt know who did it so there wasnt a criminal for them to chase. The doctor wasnt interested either and was more interested in looking at my drinking habits.
So my experience is that yes there is a drink spiking problem in NZ and to make matters worse no one is interested.

Yes, I have heard that from my daughter. New Zealand has a lot of problems with drugs in general and criminals get away with too much, so there is no limit to what goes on here. I am glad it is being addressed.

1) the drugs are available to people who know where to find them (the same as other illegal narcotics)
2) If the said substance is available and there are rapists out there, no doubt they'll add that tool to their utility belt.
Given the above, i believe these drugs are most likely used, however, after studying the neuropsychological effects of many varying substances at a tertiary level, i have to say that Alcohol is by far the worst drug in our society and as stated already, is the most effective date rape drug in the world.
Alcohol is a Testosterone stimulant.
Testosterone is not the dominant hormone in the female system, in fact it counter balances the natural equilibrium of the female hormonal system.
Alcohol removes inhibitions, makes people feel invincible and causes them to do things out of character.
Subsequently, females tend to seek sexual engagements when they are drunk that they would not otherwise think of (as with many other behaviors in both men & women), creating an illusion with men that 'chicks are easy when they're drunk'.
Ladies: rapists exist in society, booze is easy to come by, focus more on your own drinking than the prospect of drink spiking.

I know a young lady who told her parents her drink had been spiked, and they believed it.
However, heard from friends of the girl who said she had voluntarily taken drugs but didnt want to admit it to her parents, since she ended up in A&E. Wonder how often that happens!
